A rant about the Hudson River Striped Bass fishing.
Well I have only lived here for the past couple of years on the Hudson so maybe my opinion doesn’t count as much as some of the you old salts but this is what I see in terms of Striper fishing.
You have this resource, Striped Bass, that had left our river. Due to pollution or over fishing or whatever, the Striped Bass were gone from the Hudson River. Now they are coming back, this wonderful angling resource, this source of product which can drive the commercial sport fishing industry. Part time guides can pay off a year’s worth of payments on their boat by doing charters in the Striper season. There’s also more money for hotels and every other industry which profits from people traveling to come to the Hudson to fish.
Its great isn’t it; it wonderful and you know what people do
KILL AS MANY AS POSSIBLE
Is that illogical or what, it’s like anglers are doing everything in their power to kill off the striped bass. Do people not realize how easy it is to over fish a river. I mean pretty much all freshwater fishing sucks, due to over fishing. We get a chance to catch real fish right here in out backyards and everyone seems to be doing everything in their power to destroy it.
I mean I even read something about opening commercial fishing on them again.
Giant fishing tournaments killing thousand of the largest females, every big female bass taken from the river is thousands of eggs that won’t be laid to hatch and return in years to come. And the worst part is people aren’t even going to eat the eggs.
If you want to eat fish, and I love to eat fish, keep a small male.
